A new study shows that women who frequently use hair straighteners are 2.5 times more likely to develop endometrial cancer, also called uterine cancer. Eva Chalas, MD, a gynecologic oncologist at Ҵý Langone Health’s Perlmutter Cancer Center and physician director at Perlmutter Cancer Center at Ҵý Langone Hospital—Long Island, talks to HealthDay about the implications of the study.
“One of the reasons uterine cancer is rising is the epidemic of obesity,” says Dr. Chalas, also a professor in the at Ҵý Long Island School of Medicine. “Obesity and lack of physical activity are definitely two modifiable risk factors that our society can do something about.”
